Skincare in Your 30s: The Best Skincare Guide

Unless you had an older adult willing to show you the skincare ropes, you probably didn’t start thinking about your skin or taking care of it until you were in your late 20s or 30s. Maybe you started wondering about fine lines, wrinkles, or dark spots that seem to creep up overnight.

Whatever the reason, you’re wondering what you should be doing to take care of the skin you have now. Your skin begins to change in your thirties, and adjusting your skincare routine to match these changes is vital to keeping a youthful, radiant appearance.

We’ll tell you everything you need to know about how the skin changes with age and what you can do to achieve radiant, youthful skin.

What Happens to Your Skin at Age 30?

It happens in a blink. The skin that used to look bright, vibrant, and even-toned now looks splotchy, lackluster, and slack. Your skincare routine in your twenties may have simply involved washing your face in the morning and applying a little sunscreen, but now your skin craves moisture, and you’re wondering about anti-aging products.

Welcome to age 30 skin. While the surface of your skin is changing, what’s going on below the surface is changing, too.

Collagen and Elastin Decline

Two significant proteins that give skin its structure and shape are collagen and elastin. Collagen is responsible for keeping your skin looking plump and firm. It’s what fills your cheeks and the area beneath your eyes.

Elastin gives your skin the ability to stretch and snap back into place. Think of how you can pinch the skin on the back of your hand and watch it immediately smooth back out.

As we get older, collagen and elastin production begins to slow down. In fact, by age 20, our skin is making about 1% less collagen per year. Less collagen means the development of hollows under our eyes and an overall thinner appearance to our skin.

Free Radical Damage

Most of us know that the sun can be damaging to our skin. So, besides a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, we learn to use a broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher anytime we’re in the sun. But unfortunately, other external stressors can also cause skin damage.

Free radicals are unstable molecules from the sun, blue light, pollution, cigarette smoke, and household cleaning products. These molecules can damage the DNA in our skin cells. Then, when the damaged skin cells regenerate, they can repeat the damaged pattern.

Free radical damage shows up visibly on our skin in the form of fine lines, wrinkles, loss of elasticity, and stubborn dark spots that are hard to remove.

Breakouts

If you survived puberty without blemish-prone skin, you might wonder why you’re suddenly breaking out in your thirties. Unfortunately, developing breakouts after puberty is common, with many women experiencing adult-onset breakouts in their 30s and 40s.

This is a tricky problem because many blemish remedies you find over the counter contain harsh, drying ingredients unsuitable for mature skin.

Dullness

Visibly dull skin can be frustrating. Whether it happens due to dryness, irritation, or simply improper skin care, the skin that once looked bright and healthy now looks dull and flaky. If you’ve changed nothing in your skincare routine, you can blame it on your skin’s age.

Skin problems occur more prominently with age, and most people begin noticing their onset in their thirties. But don’t worry, with a proper skincare routine; you can double down on fighting the signs of aging and keeping your skin looking healthy.

What’s an Example Skincare Routine for Your 30s?

You’re battling time and the environment in your thirties, but with the right products, you can take care of your skin and even reverse the signs of aging. Here’s how to make the skin in your 30s even better than in your 20s.

1. Cleansing

Even in your 30s, proper cleansing should be the first step to your skincare routine. This gives you the best foundation for the rest of your routine. It’s essential to make cleansing a two-step process: cleanse the skin and exfoliate away dead skin cells. This helps eliminate dullness and keeps your pores clear of congestion.

NuFACE® Prep-N-Glow® Exfoliating & Hydrating Facial Wipes give you the convenience of cleansing and exfoliating in one easy step. These gentle cleansing cloths easily remove dirt and excess oil while gently exfoliating the skin.

2. Treat and Protect

Fight off free radicals and help reduce the appearance of dark spots with NuFACE Super Vita-C Booster Serum. This fast-absorbing serum is packed with antioxidants to support your skin health and contains skin-brightening niacinamide and vitamin C. These ingredients go to work to help visibly reduce the appearance of sun damage.

Super Vita-C Booster Serum also contains IonPlex®, a blend of mineral ions and glacial water that enhances microcurrent treatment.

3. Activate

It’s never too early to start using microcurrent. However, the sooner you start using it, the better your results will be. Before you begin, you’ll want a Microcurrent Activator to help ensure proper microcurrent conduction.

NuFACE Silk Crème Activator is aesthetician-created and contains IonPlex® and eight phytonutrients that help nourish and hydrate the skin. Plant botanicals help brighten and firm the look of your skin, while hyaluronic acid ensures skin is fully hydrated for up to 48 hours.

4. Give Your Skin Some TLC (Tone, Lift, and Contour)

Microcurrent therapy reaches beneath the skin's surface to help visibly provide a lifted appearance and blur fine lines and wrinkles. NuFACE TRINITY+ Starter Kit - Smart Advanced Facial Toning Kit comes with everything you need to get started and features a convenient Boost Button that gives you 25% more microcurrent for areas that need extra attention.

NuFACE Trinity® Complete - Facial Toning Kit is one device with three different attachments to contour the face, get a lifted appearance, and target fine lines & wrinkles. The Wrinkle Reducer red light attachment helps with the arrival of wrinkles on the skin, while the Lip and Eye attachment allows you to target hard-to-reach areas with microcurrent.

Age Gracefully

Sure, your skin changes in your thirties, but you don’t have to settle for skin that looks dull, feels dry, or has visible wrinkles. By leveling up your skincare routine, you can help tackle or minimize common skin issues and signs of aging. With NuFACE, your skin can get better with age- just like you.
