Travel Skincare: Tips and Tricks While Traveling

Taking a vacation is good for your body and soul. Unplugging on holiday can help you manage stress, which could pay dividends in your quest for healthy, radiant skin. Packing for a trip can be stressful, and working to keep your skincare routine pared down to the essentials can be a challenge.

You don’t have to compromise your skincare routine to travel light. With the NuFACE MINI+, you never have to miss a lift, even when traveling. Consider this your how-to guide for packing the essential items to keep your skin in excellent condition no matter where your travels take you.

Why Does Travel Skincare Matter?

When traveling, your skin is naturally exposed to different climates and external stressors. Spending a week in a dry, arid climate can leave your normally hydrated skin feeling dry and needing added moisture. In addition, recycled cabin air during air travel can suck the life - and moisture - out of your skin, leaving it dry, rough, and flaky. Air pollution, additional sunlight, and even salt from seawater can also change how your skin looks and behaves.

Whether you’re heading to the mountains for a ski trip or to relax and recharge with a seaside escape, the best way to combat the effects of external stressors from traveling is to keep up a consistent skincare routine.

What Is a Good Skincare Routine While Traveling?

Maintaining the look and feel of your skin while you’re on vacation can be a challenge. TSA limitations on liquids you can pack in your carry-on baggage may make packing difficult if you're traveling by air. Remember when packing your carry-on that you can only bring 100mL (3.4 oz) size liquids, and all liquids must fit within a clear, resealable 1L bag. If you want to pack your skincare products over 3.4oz., you may want to consider putting them in your checked baggage.

To streamline your routine, consider packing smaller sizes of your typical products. Most brands offer travel-sized products that are perfectly portable and TSA-friendly. Suppose you can’t find a smaller version of your favorite skincare products. In that case, you may want to consider investing in a reusable toiletry container set that you can fill with your favorite cleansers, serums, and moisturizers for easy packing.

Another option when traveling is to pare down how many steps in your skincare routine you’ll do on your trip. You don’t want to skip some essential steps on vacation - cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection - while other treatment steps can wait until you return. A deep detox mask, for example, and probably wait until you return from your trip. You likely won’t want to spend the time doing these extra steps while you make the most of your time on vacation!

A good rule of thumb is to aim to bring along a product or device to cover these essential steps:

  • Cleansing
  • Hydrating
  • Sun protection
  • A treatment to suit your unique skin needs - like wrinkle reduction or treating acne
  • A portable facial device

By making sure you pack these essentials, you can take care of your skin while away. These steps cover the basics and allow a skin treatment to stay consistent.

Cleansing

The first step in any good skincare routine is cleansing. Cleansing helps eliminate dirt and oil and keeps your skin balanced. Cleansing on vacation is especially important, as you’ll want to remove bacteria, germs, and pollution from travel. Aim to cleanse your skin twice daily: once in the morning and once in the evening.

A gentle, oil-free cleanser is a must-have, especially if you use microcurrent therapy. Some oils may affect the performance of microcurrent conduction. Consider using a convenient dual-sided wipe, like NuFACE Prep-N-Glow® Facial Wipes. These oil-free cloths gently remove makeup and grime with a smooth side, then exfoliate the skin with the microdot side. Plus, these individually wrapped cloths are packed with hyaluronic acid, which helps to hydrate skin and lock in moisture - which is super important when traveling to keep skin balanced.

Hydrating

Keeping your skin hydrated while traveling can be challenging, especially if your vacation plans take you to an arid climate. In addition to the hyaluronic acid found in Prep-N-Glow Wipes, you can rely on the ultra-hydrating ingredients in NuFACE Aqua Gel Activator and Silk Crème Activator:

  • Aqua Gel Activator: Powered by IonPlex®, a proprietary blend of glacial water and ions, this activator also contains ingredients such as hyaluronic acid which is designed to keep your skin hydrated.

  • Silk Crème Activator: This activator is also formulated with IonPlex and hyaluronic acid. It also features a time-released blend of plant botanicals designed to promote a brighter, more even skin tone and keep your skin hydrated for up to 48 hours.

Microcurrent Activators are ideal for travel, as they are 2-in-1 products that both conduct microcurrent for lifting treatments and work as a moisturizer, so you don’t have to pack a separate product to do each. Aqua Gel and Silk Crème come in full sizes and convenient, TSA-approved travel sizes. You can get both in the Limited Edition NuFACE MINI+ and FIX Duo Holiday Kit.

Sun Protection

It probably goes without saying, but it’s essential to pack sun protection anytime you travel. Of course, you’re likely planning on bringing SPF for a tropical beach vacation, but you’ll also need sun protection when most of your time is spent indoors or if you’ll be hitting the slopes. In fact, you’re actually at higher risk for sun damage while in snowy environments, like during a ski trip!

Sunlight reflects off snow, meaning the sun’s rays will hit your skin from above and below. In addition, UV rays are stronger at higher altitudes - like on the mountain while skiing. It’s estimated that for every 1,000ft. increase in altitude, UV rays strengthen by 6-10%

Whether you’re planning to lounge at the beach, go sightseeing, or ski, you’ll need to pack adequate sun protection. Wearing sunscreen daily can significantly benefit your skin and reduce your risk of developing skin cancer. Aim to use SPF 15 or higher every day - at home or away.

Adding a serum that contains antioxidants can help add a layer of protection to your skin. Antioxidants protect the skin from the onslaught of free radicals from the sun and other stressors like pollution. Super Vita-C Booster Serum contains a combination of plant botanicals, IonPlex, and vitamin C to help support your skin cell health during exposure to free radicals.

Treat

Taking a skin treatment with you while traveling doesn’t have to be cumbersome. You can take the one device that helps you target lines, wrinkles, tone, and resilience in one easy step. Skip the messy facial mask and opt for the NuFACE TRINITY+ Complete Set. This travel-ready set features clinically-proven, FDA-cleared and TSA-approved TRINITY+ Facial Toning Device to sculpt, depuff and lift skin, along with interchangeable attachments - so you have the ability to customize treatments without adding extra products to your suitcase. The included Red Light Attachment assists in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while the Effective Lip & Eye Attachment tightens and tones the skin around the eyes and lips for a youthful appearance.
