4 Tips and Tricks on How To Get Glowing Skin

Have you looked in the mirror recently and wondered why your skin doesn’t look as radiant as it once did? A proper skincare routine, and sometimes a revamp of your lifestyle, may be what you need.

If you’re tired of investing in the brightest bathroom lighting and face-editing app add-ons, you’re in luck. Here at NuFACE, we have the best advice to turn on the glow and dazzle every room you walk into.

How Can I Achieve Glowing Skin?

1. Keep Your Face Clean

Cleansing your face twice a day is one of the best things you can do to work towards a glowing complexion. During the day and over the course of the night, dead skin cells and grime can build up on the surface of your skin. This can lead to a dull appearance, and may even exacerbate the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Using an effective cleanser can help clear away this debris and reveal glowing skin.

2. Incorporate Key Vitamins

How does a healthy diet promote healthy skin? The simple answer is vitamins.

Food sources of antioxidants like vitamin A, vitamin D, and vitamin E can help you glow from the inside out. Supplements can also be beneficial to add to your regular vitamin rotation, but they can only go so far in achieving your desired skin glow. For more direct benefits to your complexion, you can (and should) apply vitamins directly to your skin!

Our Super Booster Vita-C Serum incorporates vitamin C and vitamin B3 to help brighten your skin and target the look of dark circles under your eyes.

Vitamin C serums can also provide an extra layer of protection against UV ray damage, offering support to your regular SPF and working to help even out your skin tone. Use it in the morning before you go out for the day for the best results.

3. Introduce Exfoliation

With age, our skin’s natural regeneration process tends to slow — which means dead skin cells can build up, clog pores, and get in the way of a glowing complexion. Exfoliation can help slough away these dead skin cells and get you your glow back.

Physical exfoliants like microbeads or chemical exfoliants like alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) can help here. Alpha-hydroxy acids like glycolic acid and lactic acid are common options, and they are available in the form of lotions, serums, face masks and peels, or toners.

4. Lock in Moisture

As always, we cannot emphasize the importance of moisturizer enough. They lock in necessary hydration for your skin to glow and prevent additional fine lines and cracks. Look for moisturizers that contain hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and squalene.

You might also see products with ingredients like cocoa butter, shea butter, or olive oil. If you have dry skin, these ingredients can help you lock in moisture so you can have radiant skin all day long. You may also want to look for aloe vera, niacinamide, and other soothing ingredients.

Make sure you are also drinking enough water. You can calculate the amount of oz you should have a day, but a general rule of thumb is eight glasses of water for women. This will help to prevent major dehydration and keep your skin feeling soft and looking full and bright.

5. Turn to NuFACE Skincare Technology

Here at NuFACE, we provide innovative skincare devices using the latest technology to target a variety of skin concerns.

Our MINI+ Device works to tone, contour, and lift your skin, turning back the clock with a newfound glowing complexion. Dull skin occurs when you don’t have proper blood flow, leading to discoloration and uneven pigmentation. The Mini+ works to promote healthy circulation to restore youthful-looking radiance.

We also offer Booster Serums, which are made to be used alonside our microcurrent devices like the MINI+® Starter Kit. Our Super Booster Peptide Serum works to brighten, firm, and refine skin for an even appearance — it’s the perfect option if your goal is glow

What Causes Dull Skin?

Now that we’ve discussed how to get back your glow, let’s talk about why your skin might look particularly dull in the first place. Often, you’ll find that there are multiple culprits. You probably can identify with more than one of the issues we’ve listed below, but don’t let it worry you. Determining the cause of your skin’s uneven pigmentation, texture, or dullness brings you one step closer to correcting the issue.

Dehydration

Without proper moisture, your skin will quickly lose its luster. Dryness can also exacerbate the look of fine lines and wrinkles you may already have.

Dry skin is can result in a dull complexion, as it tends to look and feel sunken and rough rather than glowy and radiant. Dry skin can also create more dead skin cell buildup, further contributing to an overall dull-looking complexion.

Dryness may have ties to dehydration, but more often than not, it’s tied to your skin type or damage to your skin barrier. Because of this, dryness and dehydration are treated differently.

Aging

This brings us to our second factor in dull-looking skin: age. Over time, your skin's natural collagen production begins to break down, along with how fast your skin cell turnover occurs. When your skin doesn’t regenerate quickly enough, dead cells rise to the top and sit over healthy, new cells. Your skin becomes flaky, and pigmentation can look splotchy or inconsistent. This can lead to what we call dark spots or age spots.

Your skin is also a product of its environment. If you live somewhere that has harsh UV rays, and you’re not keeping up with those sunscreen applications, you might have some sun spots and excess wrinkles due to sun damage. There is no glow when your skin has been consistently sun-damaged for decades.

Poor Diet

If you’re eating poorly, your body can reflect it in more than just your physique. Your skin is an organ, and your biggest one at that. Without proper nutrients, you may notice more wrinkles, fine lines, dullness, and sagging skin. A balanced diet is crucial to getting (and maintaining) a healthy glow.

Find Your Glow From Within

Dull skin can result from a variety of factors, and when in doubt, you should consult a board-certified dermatologist for advice regarding your specific needs.

Above all, maintaining your general health and wellness can naturally bring a glow to your skin. Skincare products and devices only emphasize what your body can provide by itself. Dedicate yourself to enough sleep, mindful relaxation, a clean diet, and adequate water intake. With time, the rest will shine through.
