Frequency Specific Microcurrent: What Is It?

Microcurrent therapy has been used in the medical field for decades, primarily as a means of supporting wound healing. Today, research has brought the technology forward so that it can be used for numerous different issues, including addressing skin issues like loss of resilience and firmness.

One specific type of microcurrent therapy is frequency-specific microcurrent, or FSM. Here’s what you should know about it, and how it relates to popular microcurrent treatments available from professional aestheticians or with at-home devices.

What Is Frequency Specific Microcurrent?

All types of microcurrent therapy use low-level microcurrents delivered to the body. FSM uses different levels to target specific issues in particular areas of the body. For instance, a lower-level current might be used to address pain, and another current might be used to address tissue health.

Generally speaking, FSM has been used primarily in the medical field to help with issues like chronic pain, wound healing, and cell growth. FSM machines are generally large and bulky and require a professional to use them. FSM treatments almost always consist of using two specific currents at the same time, so the machines themselves must be capable of delivering two different currents simultaneously.

What Is FSM Used To Treat?

FSM is critical in the treatment of pain, especially pain that stems from nerve and muscle issues. FSM stimulates the mitochondria inside human cells and increases ATP (energy) output, which helps cells repair faster.

FSM is also used in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and issues. FSM can help alleviate pain and stiffness by loosening muscles that are strained or injured.

It’s important to note that the type of microcurrent used by your aesthetician and the type available with NuFACE® Devices is different from FSM.

What Is NuFACE Microcurrent?

NuFACE® Devices use the same technology that FSM is built upon, but without dual currents and in a different delivery vehicle. In addition, microcurrent that is used in dermatology typically uses a different type of current which is comfortable and painless.

NuFACE devices are all FDA-cleared and aesthetician-created. NuFACE Pro Devices are made exclusively to be used in a med-spa setting with a licensed practitioner, but NuFACE at-home devices can give you the ability to use microcurrent therapy in your own home in as little as five minutes per day.

NuFACE TRINITY+® With Boost

While every NuFACE device delivers a consistent low-level microcurrent to the skin and underlying facial structures, NuFACE TRINITY + is our only device that features a Boost Button. The Boost Button gives you an added 25% more microcurrent, allowing you to target problem areas with a higher level of current. You can use the Boost Button when you want to address deep wrinkles, problematic loss of skin’s resilience, and areas (like the jawline) where signs of aging may be more prominent.

How To Use NuFACE TRINITY+ With Boost Button

Cleanse

Cleansed skin is a must before any microcurrent treatment. Use a NuFACE Prep-N-Glow ® Facial Wipe or oil-free cleanser to remove dirt, oil, and makeup. Keep in mind that oil-based cleansers can interfere with your device’s microcurrent and interrupt your treatment.

Next, spritz Supercharged IonPlex® Facial Mist onto the skin to enhance hydration and prepare for your microcurrent treatment.

Boost

Apply a few drops of your favorite NuFACE Ionized Super Booster to your fingertips and gently massage into your skin. NuFACE Boosters deliver targeted active ingredients to the skin to address your unique needs, from tightening to reducing visible discoloration, all while enhancing microcurrent treatment.

Activate and Lift

Before you begin your microcurrent treatment, you’ll need to apply your favorite NuFACE Microcurrent Activator. NuFACE Microcurrent Activators contain IonPlex, a proprietary blend of glacial water and ions to ensure the highest level of microcurrent effectiveness. To apply, use the Clean Sweep Activator Brush to apply a mask-like layer of activator to the skin in sections as you treat.

Next, turn on your NuFACE TRINITY+ Device and begin performing glides and holds on the areas of your skin you want to treat. When you reach a problem area where you’d like to add extra definition and contour, like the jawline or cheekbones, hit the Boost button to deliver an additional 25% more microcurrent to these areas.

If you are performing a longer treatment, spray Supercharged IonPlex® Facial Mist over your activator to rehydrate and enhance your treatment.

Once you’ve completed your treatment, you can gently massage any remaining Microcurrent Activator and finish with your favorite eye cream, moisturizer, and sunscreen. NuFACE Devices are safe to use daily. We recommend beginning by treating skin at least 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week for your first 60 days, then pairing back to 2-3 times a week to maintain your results.
